He tried to drive through me

Pulling away from a set of traffic lights at which I had positioned myself in front of traffic, the driver of the first car in line misjudged his attempted very close pass, and hit my bars. At one point they were under his wheel arch.
That made me fall onto his front wing, but I remained upright and was able to move off.

I spoke to him and asked him to pull over to exchange details, to which he replied “Why?! You hit me!” and then drove off, ‘prompted’ by the car behind.

At the moment of the incident, in front was a 20 metre drive to the next queue of traffic at another set of red lights, so there wasn’t even a need to get past me.
Potential $1250 fine and 3 months imprisonment for driving off (let alone the incident) says his action wasn’t the right call.
